Group Classes in Body-Led Singing

Body-Led Singing classes are group singing classes that use breath-connected movement as a vehicle for learning the basic techniques of singing. Think "yoga for the voice" meets "creative movement". We use guided improvisation to enter into the meditative state. In doing so, we move away from the fear-based critical brain and toward more expansive and creative parts of our awareness. If you are curious, a kinesthetic learner, willing to be playful and have a desire to learn to sing freely, then come and join us!

A unique group singing technique approach to learn the basic techniques of singing through breath-connected movement

Throughout my years of teaching I have discovered hand movements, eye focuses, and ways of stretching the fascial system through movement that support the dome-shaped muscles - the diaphragm, pelvic floor, pharynx and soft palate, that balance our breath and therefore our voices. This way of moving becomes its own language that, when combined with sound often introduces us to a new freedom. Beyond that, in my group movement workshops, I have found that emotions naturally arise as students tap more fully into their vocal power. For this reason, I emphasize a supportive and safe community. I help students integrate their experience through journaling, witnessing, improvisation, community and play.

We use guided improvisation to enter into the meditative state.

In the Body-Led Singing approach, we use guided improvisation to enter into the meditative state. In doing so, we move away from the fear-based critical brain and toward more expansive and creative parts of our awareness. We disorganized our usual ways of thinking and moving to create a fertile ground for new connections in the brain. This allows us to shift habitual patterns of tension in the voice into patterns of more ease.
